Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about visiting our centres and attending classes

Do I need to book?

Most of our classes are drop-in — simply arrive and take a seat. No booking is required for regular weekly classes. Some special events and day courses do require advance booking, which you can do through our events page.

Do I need any experience?

Not at all. Our classes are suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Each session includes a guided meditation, so you’ll always be led through the practice.

What should I wear?

Whatever you find comfortable. There’s no special dress code. We sit on chairs (not on the floor), so just wear what you’d normally wear.

How much does it cost?

Most drop-in classes are £8 per session, with concessions available. Lunchtime meditations are £5. Some events are free, including Prayers for World Peace. Series bookings offer a discounted rate.

What happens in a class?

A typical class lasts 60–75 minutes and includes a short introduction, a teaching based on Buddhist philosophy, one or two guided meditations, and time for questions. Refreshments are usually available before and after.

Is this a religious organisation?

Kadampa Meditation Centre London is part of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), a Mahayana Buddhist organisation. Our classes present Buddhist ideas in a practical, accessible way. You don’t need to be a Buddhist to attend or benefit from the teachings.

Are children welcome?

We run dedicated Kids’ Meditation sessions at selected times. Regular adult classes are generally not suitable for young children, but teenagers are welcome.

Is there wheelchair access?

Our Kensington centre has step-free access. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility requirements so we can ensure you’re comfortable.

Can I just meditate without the teaching?

Our lunchtime sessions (Simply Meditate) are 30-minute guided meditations with minimal teaching — ideal if you just want to sit and meditate. Regular classes include both teaching and meditation.

How do I join the Foundation Programme?

The Foundation Programme is a systematic study of five Buddhist texts. You can attend a few sessions before deciding to enrol. Speak to the teacher after class or email us at info@meditation.london for more information.
