A Course in Modern Buddhism

Practising Buddha’s teachings on Sutra and Tantra — a deep, practical training in meditation, Buddhist philosophy and psychology.

About the course

Designed to be highly practical, this course provides a comprehensive overview of the Buddhist path, with an emphasis on psychological, metaphysical and applied elements. It helps you establish or re-establish a regular meditation practice through a variety of Buddhist techniques. Each part can be taken individually.

It is an in-person programme with interactive learning and community. Members can also join live online — see membership.

Dates and booking for the current run are listed on our events page when a course is open.

Course book

Based on the free ebook Modern Buddhism by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, also drawing on other sources. The author writes that through reading and practising these instructions, people can solve daily problems and maintain a happy mind.

FAQs

Do I need to be Buddhist?
No. There is no expectation that you will become Buddhist. Some people deepen their connection over time; others simply apply what feels relevant.
Can I take each part separately?
Yes. You can book the full programme, an individual course, or a single class. For the most immersive experience we recommend the full course, but drop-ins are welcome when offered.
How is this different from a meditation app?
Apps are a great start. This programme offers sustained study, direct guidance from an experienced teacher, and a committed peer group — a coherent path rather than practising alone.
